Primary care physicians spend nearly 2 hours on administrative tasks per hour of direct patient care. The leading cause is burdensome workflows which account for $53B CAD in health care delivery costs annually and result in a rising prevalence of burnout (over 50 percent in some studies). Burned-out physicians are more likely to leave practice, which reduces patients’ access to and continuity of care. Burnout can also threaten patient safety and care quality.
In our bi-weekly newsletter, we dig deep into this problem and share best practices, ideas, and stories about how Canadian primary care clinics can modernize workflows to reduce costs, improve outcomes and enhance physician and patient experiences.
